Dry Stone Wall Purgola, Wildlife Pond, Private Garden
The Dry Stone Wall is made from reclaimed bath stone and offers a haven for insects while defining the corner of this private garden. Once it is no longer wanted, it can be just as easily disassembled and re-used somewhere new just as it has been before.
The triangular pergola is made from UK coppiced Sweet Chestnut, a sustainably sourced hardwood, that has a very strong natural resistance to rotting, using in the round it can be thinner than sawn posts, whilst offering more strength.
A mixture of the clients planting and some perenial edibles, namely the sea beet, and perenial kale make the area both beautiful and productive.
The bench, made from Sweet Chestnut wood sawn from reclaimed urban trees, will frame the dry stone wall for a long time, given its super rot resistant properties.
The Wildlife Pond offers a haven for wildlife in this urban garden. In conjunction with the loose walling surrounding it and the dry stone wall adjacent to it, it offers a place for wildlife to seek refuge, drink, forage and thrive.
The cairn offers utilises unused stone from the walling to create a sanctuary for insects, able to enjoy the suns stored warmth in the rocks overnight.
